Shashibo Review: The Fidget Toy That Earned Its Awards

Shashibo Shape-Shifting Cube reviewed by bestproductco

Fun In Motion Toys makes STEM-based, screen-free fidget toys and shape-shifting puzzles. Its flagship is the award-winning Shashibo cube, sold in dozens of themed series, alongside the Mozi and Glozi magnetic fidgets and the Glow.0 collection, which includes the Wandini Glow.0 and the Wes Peden Glow.0 juggling balls. Awards are easy to win and hard to live up to, so we ran the Shashibo through six weeks with three different age groups.

Our verdict

Shashibo Shape-Shifting Cube

The best screen-free fidget toy we have tested, and one of the few that adults keep picking up after the novelty wears off. Magnets are strong, the finish is excellent, and the 70+ shapes are a real claim rather than marketing. Buy the two-pack.

What we liked

  • Genuinely holds attention for weeks, not the usual three days
  • Magnets are strong and have not weakened over six weeks of constant use
  • Printed finish has resisted scuffing far better than expected
  • Works across a huge age range, from primary-age kids to adults on calls

What we didn’t

  • Strong magnets mean it is not suitable for very young children
  • There is no single “solution”, which frustrates people who want a defined goal
  • Themed series pricing adds up fast if you start collecting

What it actually is

The Shashibo is a cube built from 36 rare-earth magnets and a set of hinged segments. Fold it and it collapses, twists and reforms into a different solid. There are more than 70 documented shapes, and unlike most “infinite possibilities” claims, this one is verifiable: we hit shapes in week five that we had not found in week one. The magnets snap each configuration into place with a satisfying click that is a large part of why people keep doing it.

The replay test

This is where fidget toys die. We have a drawer full of products that held attention for four days. The Shashibo is still being picked up daily after six weeks, by an adult on video calls, by a nine-year-old who has learned three shapes by muscle memory, and by a teenager who mostly just flips it open and shut. That spread of appeal across ages is unusual and is the strongest argument for buying it as a gift when you do not know the recipient well.

Durability

Six weeks of constant handling, several drops onto a hard floor, and one trip to the bottom of a school bag. The printed faces have picked up light scuffing at the corners and nothing more. Magnet strength is unchanged. For a toy at this price that is a better result than we expected.

Honest caveats

The magnets are strong, which is exactly why it feels good and exactly why it is not a toy for very young children who put things in their mouths. Check the age guidance and take it seriously. Second, some people want a puzzle to have an answer. The Shashibo does not; it is a sandbox, not a Rubik’s Cube. If the person you are buying for needs a defined goal, this will frustrate them.

The rest of the range

If you are buying anyway, the Earth-Moon 2 Pack is better value than two singles and the two cubes connect to each other, which unlocks shapes a single cube cannot make. The Glow.0 line is a different product category entirely (juggling and movement) and is worth a look if the recipient is into performance rather than desk fidgeting.
