FITCAMX Integrated Dash Cam Review: The Install Is the Whole Product

FITCAMX Vehicle-Specific Integrated Dash Cam reviewed by bestproductco

FITCAMX sells integrated, vehicle-specific dash cams that replace the trim behind the rearview mirror, along with universal models and accessories such as CPL filters, parking mode cables, fuse box kits and Micro SD cards. The pitch is that you skip removing the A-pillar and skip tapping the fuse box or cigarette lighter entirely. That claim is the whole reason to buy one, so we tested the install as seriously as the footage.

Our verdict

FITCAMX Vehicle-Specific Integrated Dash Cam

Video quality is good, not class-leading. The install is what you are actually paying for, and it is superb: twenty minutes, no trim tools, no visible wiring, no A-pillar surgery. For anyone who wants a dash cam that looks factory, nothing else comes close at this price.

What we liked

  • Genuinely plug-and-play: it powers from the mirror harness, no fuse tapping
  • Completely hidden once fitted, with no dangling cable down the windscreen
  • Install took us under 25 minutes with no specialist tools
  • Broad fitment list across Toyota, Volvo, Polestar and Audi, plus many others

What we didn’t

  • Night footage is usable but loses fine plate detail under poor street lighting
  • App pairing is functional rather than polished
  • Vehicle-specific design means it does not transfer if you change cars

The install

This is the section that matters. The unit replaces the plastic trim behind the rearview mirror and draws power from the mirror harness that is already there. In practice that meant unclipping the factory cover, plugging in, clipping the FITCAMX housing into its place and re-seating the mirror. No trim removal tools, no cable tucked into the headliner, no A-pillar panel off, no add-a-fuse. We were done in under 25 minutes taking our time, and from the driver seat the car looks completely stock.

Daytime footage

Daytime video is good. Plates are legible at a sensible following distance, exposure handles the transition into and out of tunnels without blowing out, and the CPL filter (sold separately, and worth it) removes most of the dashboard reflection on the windscreen. For the purpose a dash cam actually serves, which is documenting an incident clearly enough for an insurer, it does the job.

Night footage

Night is where the compromise shows. On a well-lit main road, plates are still readable. On a poorly lit residential street with an oncoming car in frame, fine detail smears and you are relying on vehicle colour and shape rather than a legible plate. Standalone cameras at a similar price with a bigger sensor do better here. You are trading some low-light resolution for the hidden install.

Parking mode and the app

Parking mode works as advertised but needs the dedicated hardwire cable to do anything useful, so budget for it. The app connects, downloads clips and lets you change settings, which is all it strictly needs to do, but it is clearly the least polished part of the product. Pairing occasionally needed a second attempt. Once connected it was stable.

Two months in

The camera has run every day for two months without a single dropped recording or card error, using the brand’s own Micro SD. The best compliment we can pay it is that we forgot it was fitted, which is exactly what you want from something that lives behind your mirror.
